Canadian PM Condemns Russian Drone Attack To Cross Poland,: Putin Doesn't Care About Peace Roads

JAKARTA - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney denounced Russia's drone attack on Polish airspace as a reckless act and increased escalation. Ottawa is certain to be Carney in close coordination with his NATO allies.

Carney said the incident showed the need to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

"We will remain vigilant against Russia's efforts to expand and prolong the conflict with Ukraine. Putin once again shows his indifference to the path of peace," he said.

Canada is one of the most vocal Kyiv defenders in the international world and has committed to sending billions of dollars in financial and military aid.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand previously said the attack was another dire example of Putin's refusal to seek peace.

Previously, the Kremlin declined to comment on Poland's statement that Russian drones violated its airspace. The Kremlin emphasized the authority of the Ministry of Defense.

Poland shot down a drone in its airspace on Wednesday with the support of military aircraft from its NATO allies. This is the first time a member of the Western military alliance has been known to have opened fire during the Russian war in Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said it was a large-scale provocation and the closest open conflict we have faced since World War Two.

"In this case, we don't want to comment on it in any way. This is not our responsibility - this is the prerogative of the Ministry of Defense," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Peskov said the Kremlin had not received any contact requests from Poland, but dismissed allegations by the European Union and NATO that Russia had provoked.

"EU and NATO leaders accuse Russia of provocations every day. Most of the time, even without trying to provide any arguments," Peskov said.
