Maluku Police Deploy 200 Personnel To Secure Residents' Clashes In Haruku

AMBON - The Maluku Regional Police (Polda) deployed as many as 200 joint personnel to secure the post-vortex situation in the border areas of Kabauw State and Kailolo Country, Haruku Island District, Maluku.

"To maintain stability and anticipate potential further conflicts, 200 joint personnel from Brimob, Dit Samapta, and Polresta Ambon, as well as 13 TNI personnel from Koramil 07 Haruku Island were deployed to the location," said Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Police, Kombes Rositah Umasugi, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 9.

This security was led directly by Karoops Polda Maluku, accompanied by Dansat Brimob Maluku Police and Kapolresta Pulau Ambon and PP Lease.

Rositah explained that the clash was triggered by allegations of mistreatment of a resident of Kabauw by an Unknown Person (OTK) while he was traveling with his son in the Kailo area, precisely in front of Feri Wainana Port.

The incident sparked mass concentrations on the border between the two countries since 11.45 WIT and led to clashes that left one person dead and five others injured.

Responding to these conditions, the joint TNI-Polri apparatus immediately intervened to control the situation and prevent the spread of conflict. As of 17.00 WIT, the situation in the area has been reported to be gradually conducive, and residents from both parties have returned to their homes.

"We have placed personnel proportionally at vulnerable points, including at the border of Kabauw and Kailolo," said Kombes Pol Rositah.

The Maluku Regional Police together with the TNI, local governments, community leaders, and religious leaders continue to urge the public to exercise restraint, not to be provoked by information that is not necessarily true, and to entrust the handling of this case to law enforcement officials.

"Casus handling will be carried out thoroughly and transparently, by upholding the principles of justice and the principle of presumption of innocence," he said.
