AHY: The Pantura Sea Embankment In Java Combined With Mangroves

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said the construction of a sea embankment on the north coast (Pantura) of Java would be combined with a natural solution in the form of mangrove planting according to the geographical conditions of the region.

This was conveyed by AHY after he and the Head of the North Coast Management Authority of Java (Pantura) Didit Herdiawan Ashaf and his staff held a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 9.

"In the future, in front of the President, we also said that in time we wanted to present an integrated solution, a combination of the approach to the construction of embankments, both coastal embankments and sea embankments, but also a more natural solution, for example with mangroves," AHY said after the meeting. reported by ANTARA.

He explained that not all coastal areas in Pantura Java need sea embankments. According to AHY, development will adjust regional conditions, including land subsidence levels and level of vulnerability to tidal flooding.

"So if you look at the Javanese map, Javanese pantura, of course with geographical contours there are those whose condition is already very bad, the land subsidence is bad. So like it or not, there must be a sea embankment. So many kilometers in front of the beach. But there are still those who can strengthen the coastal embankment," he said.

In areas where geographical conditions still allow, mangrove planting will be more effective and efficient to protect coastal communities.

"Well, there are also those that are not too severe, instead with better mangroves, they are more effective and more efficient. So later there will be a combination," said AHY.

AHY said that the protection of the Javanese Pantura is very essential in order to save people on the coast of Pantura, Java, which is threatened with disasters every time due to land subsidence and tidal flooding.

"Including we want to protect various strategic industrial areas and special economic zones which are also widely held on the north coast of Java," he said.
