The Ministry of Public Works (PU) will immediately begin the construction and rehabilitation of the tertiary irrigation network from the Logung Dam in Kudus Regency, Central Java.

This follows up on Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 2 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Development and Rehabilitation of the National Irrigation Network.

"As a follow-up to the Presidential Instruction, this year the construction and rehabilitation of the tertiary irrigation network from the 20-kilometer (km) LOgung Dam will begin to ensure the water supply is evenly distributed to the end (hilir) land," said PU Minister Dody Hanggodo in a written statement, Saturday, September 6.

The Logung Dam, which was completed in 2018 and started operating since 2019, has a capacity of 20.15 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 144.05 hectares.

The dam provides benefits for supplying water to the Irrigation Area (DI) of Logung covering an area of 4,666 hectares spread across Kudus and Pati Regencies, with direct benefits for 2,418.54 hectares existing, 1,009 hectares of rain fields and 1,238.46 hectares in the district's authority.

With water supply arrangements guaranteed from the Logung Dam, planting intensity and agricultural productivity in Kudus and Pati regencies have been proven to increase.

The Logung Dam supplied water through a primary channel along the 4.8 km and a secondary channel of 44.2 km to support rice fields that used to rely only on rain.

In addition to supplying agricultural irrigation water, the Logung Dam also provides 200 liters/second raw water for the City of Kudus and its surroundings, reducing the potential for flooding to 105 cubic meters per second in the downstream region and potentially producing hydroelectric power of 0.5 MW.

In addition, there is the potential for tourism around the dam that continues to grow, thus opening up new economic opportunities for the community.

"The dam is an important thing to prepare water, but ensuring that water reaches the rice fields through an integrated irrigation network is also very important," explained Dody.

"So the Presidential Instruction No. 2/2025 is the basis for us to accelerate the rehabilitation and construction of irrigation channels throughout Indonesia," he concluded.
