JAKARTA - The Ministry of Human Rights (KemenHAM) will investigate the chronology of the riots around the Islamic University of Bandung (Unisba) on Monday (1/9) night.
Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai admitted that the information he received regarding the incident was quite large and was packaged in various versions.
"Therefore, the Ministry of Human Rights will check in the field, is it true that law enforcers enter the campus area which is part of the academic freedom domain," Pigai said at a press conference reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 2.
He emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto, based on Astacita's mission, places academic freedom as a justuhung position in government policy.
Not only at Unisba, Pigai admitted that the Ministry of Human Rights has also formed a team to go to the field to specifically monitor future demonstrations.
The team aims to ensure that the legal process during the demonstration is carried out professionally and that those detained remain in good health, fulfill their daily needs, and be treated fairly.
"The team will monitor almost several Regional Police (Polda), including DKI, West Java, Central Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, West Kalimantan, and others," he said.
In addition, Pigai said that his party had also invited all human rights experts to help the Ministry of Human Rights overcome various problems related to recent demonstrations.
The human rights experts are the former Chairman of the National Commission (Komnas) HAM, world-class human rights figures in the country who have led the United Nations (UN), former Presidents of the UN Human Rights Council, and human rights activists.

Previously, the West Java Regional Police suspected that the riots that occurred around Unisba on Monday (1/9) night had been planned by a group of mobs.
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Pol Rudi Setiawan said the mass action was designed to lure the authorities into the campus area. However, the police made sure not to attack the campus.
"We analyzed this already designed, it was planned that we were provoked to attack the campus, but thank God we didn't do it," said Rudi in Bandung, Tuesday.
Rudi said that initially the masses threw Molotov cocktails at the officers' vehicles, some even got into trucks and motorized vehicles.
Due to these conditions, joint officers then carried out large-scale patrols and dispersed the masses in a measured manner according to legal provisions.
