Police to Hold Case Hearing Tomorrow to Identify Criminal Instances Behind Affan Kurniawan's Death

JAKARTA - The National Police (Polri) have found criminal elements behind the death of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver Affan Kurniawan, who was run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle (rantis) from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya). Therefore, a case review will be held on Tuesday, September 2.

"Based on the facts from the investigation, a case review will be held," said Brigadier General Agus Wijayanto, Head of the National Police's Propam Supervision and Professional Development Bureau, to reporters on Monday, September 1.

The case review is believed to be the basis for the National Police to name a suspect. Criminal elements have been found during the investigation.

Tomorrow's case review will also involve external supervisors, namely the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) and the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), as well as internal supervisors such as the Supervisory Agency (Iwasum), among others.

"The internal review includes the Supervisory Agency (Iwasum), the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), Human Resources, the Legal Division (Divkum), the Mobile Brigade's Propam Division, and later the National Police's Propam Division. It will be held on Tuesday, September 2," he said.

Regarding the alleged criminal elements found in the series of assaults, Agus did not elaborate. He also did not elaborate on the nature of the actions of Police Commissioner Kosmas and Police Brigadier Rohmat, which led to their being categorized as serious violations.

"What actions led to Police Commissioner K being considered a serious violation? This will be included in the case. The matter will be heard tomorrow, Wednesday, and there will be an explanation," Agus said.

During the series of runovers, Police Commissioner Kosmas was in the front passenger seat, next to the driver. Meanwhile, Brigadier Rohmat was driving a tactical vehicle (rantis).

Meanwhile, five other Brimob officers were found guilty of moderate violations. They were First Inspector M. Rohyani, First Brigadier Danang, First Brigadier Mardin, Baraka Jana Edi, and Baraka Yohanes David.
