The National Police Chief And The TNI Commander Prepare Firm Steps To Overcome Anarchic Actions

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the National Police and the TNI would take firm steps in accordance with the provisions of the law in an effort to restore the security situation in a number of areas which were later colored by anarchist actions.

This was conveyed by the National Police Chief after attending an evaluation meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, the TNI Commander, and a number of related ministers in Sentul, Bogor, Saturday, August 30.

According to him, the President ordered the TNI and Polri to immediately take firm action against any actions that violate the law, especially the anarchic actions that have occurred in the last few days.

"Earlier, the President asked me and the Commander in Chief, specifically regarding anarchic actions, we Commander and Chief of Police, TNI and Polri were asked to take firm steps in accordance with applicable provisions and laws," said Sigit.

In addition, the National Police Chief also highlighted a number of incidents during demonstrations carried out in several areas, including the burning of buildings, public facilities, and attacks on the headquarters. The destructive actions are considered to have exceeded the limits of expressing opinions guaranteed by law.

"Regarding the submission of opinions, it is the right of every citizen and is protected by law. However, of course there are conditions, among others, must pay attention to the public interest, follow statutory regulations, and maintain national unity. If there is an action that leads to arson, assault, and destruction, then it has led to a criminal event, "he said.

Sigit also mentioned the progress of handling the case of seven Brimob personnel who hit an online motorcycle taxi driver until he died. He ensured that the legal process for the members went fast and transparent.

The process of handling by Propam has been ongoing and I have ordered it to be carried out quickly and in a marathon. The Head of the Propam Division has said that within one week he must be ready to carry out an ethics trial and it is also possible that there will be a criminal process if an error is found," he explained.

Sigit said that the National Police opened access for institutions such as Kompolnas and Komnas HAM to monitor the process of examination, as a form of transparency to the public.

At the end of his statement, the National Police Chief appealed to the entire community to remain calm and support the TNI-Polri's steps in maintaining national security stability.

"We hope to get support from all levels of society, national figures, and all elements of the nation to maintain unity and integrity in the midst of existing situations," said Sigit.
