JAKARTA - France is considering opening an embassy within the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, along with the opening of the Palestinian Embassy in France, Ofer Bronchtein, senior adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron for Israeli-Palestinian affairs, told Channel 12.

Bronchtein said the move - which is under consideration amid rising diplomatic tensions between Jerusalem and Paris - would be a natural step following France's pledge to recognize the Palestinian State in September at a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, quoted from The Times of Israel August 28.

The French Embassy is likely to be located in Ramallah, he added, reaffirming his view that the Palestinian state is of Israeli interest.

He argues that an attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023 would not have occurred had there been a Palestinian state, claiming the stability given by the country would have prevented the attack.

The French Embassy in Israel did not respond to a request for comment on Bronchtein's statement.

It is known, lunar President Emmanuel Macron said France would announce recognition of the Palestinian State, stressing the importance of ending the war and opening access to humanitarian aid immediately.

In his upload on social media X President Macron wrote, his choice was in accordance with France's commitment.

Consistent with its history commitment to a just and finally peace in the Middle East, I have planned that France will recognize the State of Palestine.

"In line with its historical commitment to fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided France will recognize the Palestinian State," President Macron tweeted as quoted Friday, July 25.

President Macron stressed that the current priority is ending the war in the Gaza Strip, providing assistance to civilians.

"I will deliver this solemn announcement before the United Nations General Assembly next September," he said.

Believing peace is still possible, President Macron said what is needed now is a ceasefire immediately, the release of all hostages and massive humanitarian aid to Gaza's population.

"We must also ensure Hamas' demilitarization, secure and rebuild Gaza. And lastly, we must build a Palestinian State, ensure its continuity, and ensure that by accepting its demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel, the country contributes to the security of everyone in the region," President Macron tweeted.

"There is no other alternative," he said.

France, home to Europe's largest Jewish and Muslim communities, will be the first major Western country to recognize the Palestinian state, potentially providing greater momentum to the movement that has so far been dominated by small countries that are generally more critical of Israel.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority regulates daily affairs in Palestinian population centers, including Ramallah, where the authority is located.

On the other hand, the Israeli government opposes the creation of a Palestinian state and rejects the country's recognition as a "terror gift."
