Sudirman Said Back to the Attorney General's Office, Again Singling Out the Oil Mafia in the Petral Case

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said visited the Round Building of the Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung), Jakarta, Friday, July 17. His arrival was to provide information regarding the Petral case or alleged corruption related to Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral).

Sudirman said he attended after receiving an invitation from investigators to provide information. He said the examination was still related to the Petral case being handled by the Attorney General's Office.

"Invitation to provide information. It seems to be still the same business with Petral," said Said.

Sudirman emphasized that he was being examined in his capacity as a witness. He also said that this was not the first time he had been examined in the same case.

Previously, Sudirman was also questioned regarding the case in January 2026. After the examination at that time, he had touched on the issue of the oil and gas mafia (migas).

Sudirman admitted that investigators had investigated his statements regarding the positions and duties he had held, namely when he served as senior vice president of integrated supply chain (ISC) of PT Pertamina from 2008-2009 and as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources from 2014-2016.

Sudirman did not disclose in detail the materials of the examination he had carried out. However, he admitted that he conveyed his efforts to improve the national energy sector from practices known to the public as the oil and gas mafia.

According to Sudirman, he had made efforts to improve it in two periods of state assignment, namely when he was at Pertamina and when he served as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. However, he admitted that there were a number of obstacles in the process.

"In general, I explain it this way. Twice I got a task from the state to talk about the supply chain, talk about the energy sector, which the public knows as fixing problems with the oil and gas mafia. However, twice I also experienced obstacles because at the time of ISC, the unit was running then there was a change of Pertamina's board of directors and the unit was paralyzed," said Sudirman at the Attorney General's Office Building, Jakarta, Monday (19/1/2026).

"As a result of the unit being disabled, there are practices like what you are witnessing now," he continued.

Sudirman said a similar condition also occurred when he served as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. He admitted that he had continued to improve the energy sector, but his term of office was relatively short.

"Second, when I became Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, I also continued what was not completed at the time at Pertamina, and not long ago I was arranging it, it happened that I graduated early. So, I resigned as a minister in less than 2 years and the matter that arises now is also the result of practices that were once wanted to be resolved but were not completed," said Sudirman.

The examination of Sudirman Said is part of the investigation process for the alleged corruption in Petral carried out by the Attorney General's Office. Until now, investigators are still investigating various information and statements from a number of parties to uncover the case.
