CIANJUR - The Cianjur Police, West Java, are investigating the discovery of the body of a baby boy in the Kampung Pasir Nangka river, Sindangjaya Village, Ciranjang District, on Sunday, August 24.

Police are trying to identify the parents who were so cruel as to abandon their own flesh and blood.

Ciranjang Police Chief, AKP Yuddi Suharjo, said the baby, estimated to be only one day old, was first discovered by residents while cleaning up trash at the river's sluice gate.

"Residents suddenly saw the baby's body floating, complete with the placenta," Yuddi said in Cianjur, as quoted by Antara.

Residents immediately reported the body to village officials and the Ciranjang Police. Officers who arrived at the location then conducted a crime scene investigation and interviewed several witnesses near the river.

The baby weighed approximately 3 kilograms and was 52 centimeters long. When found, his body was still fresh, but he had several injuries.

"Judging by the baby's condition, it's likely that the baby was born at night. There's a wound on the left side of the neck, a wound on the top of the head, and bruising on the waist," he said.

The baby's body was immediately evacuated to Cianjur Regional Hospital for further medical examination. Police are still investigating the cause of death and searching for the perpetrator who dumped the baby.

"The investigation is still ongoing. We're also questioning other witnesses who saw suspicious activity on the riverbank the day before," said Yuddi.

Meanwhile, residents suspect that the baby was deliberately dumped by an outsider because there have been no pregnant women in their neighborhood for the past few months.

"We suspect this was the work of an outsider who deliberately dumped the baby into the river to cover their tracks," said Malik (39), a local resident.
