Caring For Hope, Boni Hargens: Indonesia Is Still Bright Even Though Surrounded By Darkness

JAKARTA - Prospective Chairperson of the University of Indonesia Alumni Association (ILUNI UI) 2025-2028, Boni Hargens held a prayer with orphans at the Juang Building, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Thursday, August 21, 2025. The event was held not without reason, Boni assessed that the country was still in a long turmoil. During the event, Boni Hargens also provided compensation for the orphans.

"Yes, today it's just praying. So we gather our children from the orphanage, we pray together. What is the basis? We feel the same need to pray for the country," said Boni at the Indonesia Bright Movement forum with the theme "Pray together for the Country, in Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 21.

One of the turmoil that makes people restless is the increase in allowances for members of the DPR RI. This has drawn sharp criticism from all Indonesian people.

In addition, there is a polemic of the UN increase policy of 250 percent issued by the Regent of Pati, Central Java, Sudewo some time ago.

Boni assessed that Indonesia's hope needs to be maintained in order to create confidence and optimism that the country is still doing well.

"Seeing the DPR dance because of wage increases. Seeing Pati volatile, seeing other areas we also want to maintain optimism. We want to take care of our beliefs, hope that Indonesia is still fine, will be fine," said Boni.

Boni emphasized that leaders in Indonesia know what is best for the Indonesian nation. However, he did not want to protest against all policies in a harsh way.

Instead, he said, he invited all orphans to pray for Indonesia to go to a better direction. According to him, the government will receive constructive criticism and input from its people.

"So if people shout, if people think and protest, we want to invite our children to pray only. Because our leaders certainly know which is the best to do and the thinkers of this nation are also people who can provide input. Of course the government will open the ears of every criticism, every input," he said.

He hopes that all leaders in Indonesia are wise to face problems in society. Boni is also sure that Indonesia will always be bright despite the darkness that envelopes the country.

"So we pray that our leaders are always wise, we pray that our country will always be protected by God in the future. We must not be pessimistic, even though some may feel dark, but we still believe that Indonesia is still bright. Because the most important thing is Indonesia's future. Not anyone's position," he concluded.
