JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that the DPR and the Government are currently working on new rules regarding the royalties for playing songs and music which are planned to be announced soon.
According to Dasco, the current royalty rule policy has exceeded reasonable limits. According to him, copyright should only be intended for songwriters or music.
"Actually, copyright royalties are not for the benefit other than the creator. It's just the application yesterday if I think it's out of order. So wait for the announcement for a day or two," said Dasco in his statement, Tuesday, August 19.
While waiting for the announcement, Dasco appealed to MSME actors not to be afraid to play songs or music in public spaces.
"Just play it later, wait for the announcement a day or two, just play it. There is a ministerial regulation that is made and in my opinion it is still a natural thing, but while waiting for it (the announcement) don't be afraid to play," said the daily chairman of the Gerindra Party DPP.
Dasco said that the DPR RI was discussing the revision of the Copyright Law. According to him, the revision will be one of the options related to the completion of the polemic of song royalties.
"Yesterday, the Ministry of Law had brought order to the structure and composition of LMKN and the rules were waiting for the Copyright Law to be revised," said Dasco.
