JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) who is also Naib Amirul Haj 2024, Buya Anwar Abbas, asked for additional hajj quota issues to be seen comprehensively. A mathematical analysis to evaluate the hajj problem, especially regarding the density in Mina, needs to be considered.

Buya Anwar said that the Mina area of 172,000 square meters would not be proportional to the increase in the quota of Indonesian pilgrims in 2024.

At that time there were 241,000 pilgrims who came with details of 221,000 basic quotas plus 20,000 additional quotas.

"With an area of Mina 172,000 square meters, the available space is only 80 cm square per congregation, this is very narrow," said Buya Anwar, Friday, August 15.

The saddest thing is the toilet or bathroom issue, it's very long. I can't imagine if in 2024 an additional hajj quota with a scheme of 92/8 percent was implemented. So the situation in Mina will get more and more infatuated," he continued.

This condition made Buya Anwar feel that those who criticized the implementation of the 2024 Hajj, including the question of adding a hajj quota, did not know the conditions in the field.

"Once again, the cause of density is limited space, while quotas continue to grow. That's why I have proposed the construction of vertical spaces in Mina, because horizontal expansion is difficult to do," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the addition of quotas that are now being handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) because it is suspected that corruption has occurred, Buya Abbas agrees that he is not a legal expert. However, he suggested a mathematical calculation by paying attention to the area with the number of worshipers.

This is because Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as Minister of Religion at that time was believed to have his own views when determining the additional quota to be divided by 50 percent for special Hajj and 50 percent for regular Hajj because he knew the conditions on the ground.

"Once again, the area of space and the number of pilgrims will not be in sync, without additional regular Hajj there has been an urge in Mina, especially until there is an additional 42 percent of the total 10,000," he said.

"It will definitely be more and more worshipers who don't get a place, it will get worse and it's hard to imagine," concluded Buya Anwar.
