Indianwarf Hit By Flash Floods: 60 Dead, 100 More Missing

JAKARTA - Flash floods and landslides hit themen's territory of India have killed at least 60 people and more than 100 people missing as of Friday 15 August.

Landslides and flash floods have hit Chasoti Village in korontas since last Thursday. As a result, pilgrims who were gathered for lunch at the scene did not have time to climb the hill carried by the flash flood currents.

We heard loud noises and followed by flash floods and hail. People screamed, and some of them fell into the Chenab River. Others were buried under the rubble, "said Rakesh Sharma, a pilgrim who was injured, quoted by Reuters.

Bags, clothing, and other items belonging to pilgrims covered in mud, strewn between today's broken power poles.

Meanwhile rescue workers used shovels, ropes, and crossed the emergency bridge to evacuate people buried by the rubble of buildings and mud.

"We were told that 100-150 other people may be buried under the rubble," a rescue worker told the ANI news agency.

Local authorities said the disaster that occurred on Thursday was India's second disaster in less than a week.

About a week ago floods and landslides hit all villages in India's Uttarakhand state.

"Alam has tested us. In recent days, we have had to face landslides, heavy rains, and other natural disasters," said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the beginning of his nearly two-hour speech on India's 79th independence day.
