JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump indicated "some regional exchanges" between Russia and Ukraine as part of negotiations to end the war.
"You see the contested territory for three and a half years with, you know, many Russians have died. Many Ukrainians have died. So, we are considering it, but we actually want to get back some and some exchanges. It's complicated," Trump said at the White House, Friday, August 8 local time.
"But we will get some back. We will get some exchanged, there will be some regional exchanges for the good of both," Trump continued.
"We will talk about it later or tomorrow, or anytime," he continued.
Trump has been urged about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requiring permission from parliament or a national referendum to create a certain land concession that otherwise would conflict with the Ukrainian constitution.
"He's going out and getting what he needs," Trump said. "He's not authorized to do any particular things. I said, 'Well, you have to get it right away, because, you know, we're very close to an agreement.' And he did," Trump said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously reiterated Kyiv's rejection of any proposal demanding the handover of territory to Russia, ahead of a summit in Alaska next week between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
In a video statement on Saturday, August 9, Zelenskyy said the meeting between US and Russian presidents on Friday, August 5, was far from war in Ukraine.
The continuing war on our soil, against our people and that cannot end without us, without Ukraine, said the President of Ukraine.
According to US officials, Putin offered to stop the war in Ukraine in exchange for a significant territorial concession from Kyiv.
Putin conveyed the plan to Trump's foreign envoy, Steve Witkoff, in Moscow on Wednesday this week.
The plan requires Ukraine to give up the eastern Donbas region, most of which is currently occupied by Russia and Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014.
"Ukraine is ready for a real solution that can bring peace. Any decision that harms us, any decision without Ukraine, is also a decision that harms peace," Zelenskyy said.
