Police Arrest 6 Members Of Sesat Teaching Group In North Aceh

The North Aceh Police revealed that the spread of suspected heretical teachings that were not in accordance with the Islamic aqidah was carried out by a group of people in North Aceh Regency.

North Aceh Police Chief AKBP Tri Aprianto said his party arrested six members of the alleged heretical group.

"There are six people suspected of being from a deviant teaching group who were arrested. Three of them were secured at a mosque in North Aceh Regency on July 25, 2025," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 7.

The six people, with the initials AA (33) and RB (39), are both residents of North Sumatra.

Then, HA (60) and ME, residents of Bireuen Regency, Aceh. As well as NZ (53), residents of North Aceh Regency, and ES (38), residents of West Jakarta.

The police chief said the case began when residents saw recitation at a mosque in Lhoksukon, on July 25, 2025. Residents stopped the recitation because it was suspected of being deviated from Islam

Subsequently, residents reported to the North Aceh Police. From the report, the police secured three people. After the development was carried out, the officers then secured three other people.

"The three other people were secured in the Bireuen Regency and Pidie Regency. Meanwhile, the evidence that was secured contained pieces of verses, laptops, and a number of teaching books of the group," he said.

Based on the results of the examination, the group has dozens of members spread across Aceh. The group's activities have been going on since 2012 and are actively recruiting new members.

The group's modus operandi was to spread teachings that deviated from Ahlussunah Wal Jamaah, including mesias after the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

The teachings of the group also do not recognize the wonders of Prophet Isa and Prophet Musa. They also do not require five-time prayers and do not recognize the verses of the Quran.

They are suspected of violating Article 18 Paragraph (1) and Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 7 Paragraph (1), Paragraph (2), Paragraph (3), and Paragraph (4) of Aceh Qanun Number 8 of 2015 concerning the guidance and protection of aqidah.

"The punishment is that there are 60 lashes in public and at least 30 times imprisonment or a maximum of 60 months and a minimum of 30 months," said Tri Aprianto.
