President Trump Praises The Meeting Of Envoys In Particular With President Putin

JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump praised the meeting held by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Wednesday.

Witkoff arrived in Moscow at around 7 am local time on Wednesday. He was greeted by the Russian Presidential Special Envoy for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries, as well as the head of Russia's Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev at Vnukovo-2 Airport.

In a post on President Trump's Truth Social, he said he had briefed European allies on the meeting focused on the end of the war that had been going on since 2022.

"My Special Entrance, Steve Witkoff, has just held a very productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin," President Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

"Everyone agrees this War must end soon, and we will try to do so in the coming days and weeks," he added.

A White House official previously said the meeting was running smoothly and Moscow was eager to continue interacting with Washington.

However, the official said secondary sanctions threatened by President Trump against countries doing business with Russia were still expected to be imposed on Friday but did not provide further details.

Meanwhile, Russian President Yuri Ushakov, who was also present at the meeting, said Witkoff had received several signals regarding the issue of Ukraine, and in retaliation, a reply signal had also been received from US President Donald Trump.

"The current situation is that our president has complete information, including our signal and a signal from President Trump. Trump has not been briefed on the outcome of this meeting," Ushakov said, as quoted by TASS.

"Therefore, I will refrain from providing more detailed comments. Let's see when Witkoff can report to Trump about the talks that took place today. After that, of course, we will be able to expand my current comments in more detail," he added.
