Weather 1 August: Light Rain Hits Sumatra, Kalimantan, And Eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the weather in most parts of Indonesia will experience light rain starting August 2025.

BMKG forecaster, Sentia Arianti said that starting from Sumatra Island, the weather is forecasted to be thick cloudy in Pekanbaru, as well as light rain in the areas of Banda Aceh, Medan, and Padang.

"Be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning in Tanjung Pinang City," said Santia, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 1.

Still on the island of Sumatra, the weather is predicted to be thick cloudy in Palembang City, while Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, and Bandar Lampung cities are forecasted for light rain.

Turning to Java, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in the cities of Jakarta, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, then cloudy in Serang City, and thick cloudy in Bandung City.

Moving to the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in Kupang City, thick cloudy in Denpasar City, and light rain in Mataram City.

Furthermore, shifting to Kalimantan Island, cloudy weather is predicted in Samarinda City, as well as light rain in Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Palangka Raya, and Banjarmasin areas.

Then, Sulawesi Island, the weather is forecasted to escape in Palu City, thick cloudy in Manado and Gorontalo cities, light rain in Kendari and Makassar cities, and moderate rain in the Mamuju area.

Moving to eastern Indonesia, light rain is forecast in the cities of Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.

"Be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning in the Nabire region," said Sentia.

BMKG also warned of a potential wave height of 2.5 to 4 meters in the West Indian Ocean of Lampung.

People in Pangkal Pinang City, Serang, Semarang, Surabaya and its surroundings are also advised to wear sunscreen or protection when doing outdoor activities, because the temperature during the day can reach 33-34 degrees Celsius.
