LAMPUNG - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) officially launched the Migrant Class program in Lampung Province as part of a strategy to accelerate the preparation of young human resources (HR) for the international work market.
This program targets high school students, vocational schools, and students, and is fully supported by the Lampung Provincial Government.
Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Minister Abdul Kadir Karding said Lampung has the potential to become a pilot province in building a safe and empowered migration ecosystem.
He said the Migrant Class would be held in various educational institutions, while the Migrant Center would be built as an integrated migration service center.
We are interested in making Lampung a role model. We will place Migrant Classes in SMA, SMK, work schools, and universities. On the other hand, we will also build Migrant Centers as information centers, language training, skill improvement, certification, and a neatly arranged migration system," said Minister Karding at the launch of the program in Lampung, Wednesday, July 30.
Karding said that currently more than 8,500 students throughout Lampung have been registered in the Migrant Class program. The prepared curriculum is focused on job skills training, foreign languages, understanding migration laws, and family education.
They are the younger generation aged 17'18 years whose enthusiasm is still high and easy to develop. This is a golden moment to prepare them to become a global professional workforce," he added.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Lampung Rahmat Mirzani Djausal appreciated the support of the central government and called the Migrant Class a concrete solution to answer the demographic bonus challenge that is now being experienced by Lampung faster than the national projection.
Every year, around 110 thousand high school/vocational high school graduates in Lampung. But only 21 percent continue to college. The rest work, entrepreneurship, or even unemployment. The job opportunities for undergraduate graduates are only around 2,000 per year. So this Migrant class is a concrete solution so that our children have access to decent jobs, especially abroad," he said.
Governor Mirza added that Japan as one of the destination countries for work really appreciates the friendly and enthusiastic character of Indonesian human resources. He hopes that Migrant Class graduates will not only become workers, but also national ambassadors in the global arena.
We want them to be the nation's ambassadors. Lampung human resources will bring Indonesia's good name abroad with friendly, disciplined, and quickly adapting characters. This is in line with our vision and the vision of President-elect Prabowo Subianto in building superior human resources for the future of the nation," he stressed.
