British-Trump PM Agrees On The Need For Ceasefire In Gaza

JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he and US President Donald Trump agreed on the need for a ceasefire in Gaza. The two leaders discussed plans for what happened after aid was delivered.

Meanwhile, Trump stressed that the top priority in Gaza is to feed the people, because there are many people who are starving. Trump will not take any position regarding the current state of Palestine.

Trump, speaking with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his golf resort at Turnberry, Scotland, said the United States was preparing $ 60 million for humanitarian aid. Trump asked other countries to step up assistance.

Trump discussed the matter with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday. Ursula told him European countries would increase their aid substantially.

"We are giving a lot of money and a lot of food, and other countries are now increasing aid," Trump said.

"This is a mess. They have to get food and security right now," Trump said.

Starmer then agreed with Trump's statement.

"It's a humanitarian crisis, it's really a disaster. I think people in England are fed up with seeing what they see on their screen," he said.

Trump in his statement declined to comment on French President Emmanuel Macron's insistence on supporting the Palestinian state.

Trump also criticized the militant group Hamas for failing to release more hostages, both alive and dead, and said he had informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel's approach was likely to be changed.

"I told Bibi that you may have to do it in a different way," Trump said, echoing similar comments made on Sunday.

As for the ceasefire, Trump said there was still a chance.

"Yes, a ceasefire is possible, but you have to get it, you have to end it," Trump said without explaining the details in question.
