JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited a plant producing interceptor drones, which is increasingly seen as a solution to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian airstrikes. Zelenskyy sets a production target of up to 1.000 interceptor drones a day.

Zelenskyy said the newly appointed Defense Minister, Denys Shmyhal, reported on foreign aid that would allow Ukraine to ensure reliable weapons flow for Ukrainian soldiers.

"I ask for preparations for a meeting of the Technology Staff, especially those focused on drones," he said.

"The plan to achieve production of 500-1,000 interceptor drones per day has been approved. The deadline has been set, and its achievement is the personal responsibility of every official involved," he continued.

Zelenskyy said the interceptor drone proved efficient in dropping a wave of Russian attack drones directed at Ukrainian cities.

President Zelenskyy has long focused on manufacturing and drone development, an almost non-existent industry when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of its smaller neighboring country in February 2022.

In recent weeks, Zelenskyy has turned its attention to interceptor drones as an effective way to fend off Russian attacks and last month mentioned an increase in production figures.

Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat previously said the development of interceptor drones would help Ukraine use its resources more rationally in fending off Russian attacks instead of relying on missiles and aircraft.
