JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will gather mayors and regents throughout Jakarta to map the stalled land in Jakarta into green open spaces.

"On Friday we will hold a special meeting with the mayors/regents of the Thousand Islands to discuss this," said Pramono, Thursday, July 24.

Pramono admitted that the discourse of changing abandoned land to become a green space was inspired by his visit to New York, United States.

While visiting The High Line last week, the construction of the park, which was built on the former railway line in Manhattan, could be implemented in Jakarta.

"At a time in New York, I saw High Line Park and became an inspiration for me to take advantage of abandoned public spaces and there are lots of them in Jakarta," Pramono explained.

Based on data, green open space in Jakarta is only around 5 to 10 percent of the province's territory. Meanwhile, laws and regulations require an area of 30 percent of green open space.

Meanwhile, Pramono admitted that it was difficult for Jakarta to use vacant land to increase the area of green space or parks due to population density. Thus, the alternative solution that can be done is to use government-owned stalled land.

"The main problem in Jakarta is land acquisition. So that land acquisition matters do not become a problem because in Jakarta there are many public spaces or public facilities that have been neglected, are not well utilized," explained Pramono.

"We will repair it and use it to make it greener and beneficial for the community," he added.
