The Serakahnomics Phenomenon, The Term Prabowo Uses, Describes Economic Intimacy

YOGYAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has made strong criticisms of a new phenomenon in economic practice which he calls "serakahnomics", a combination of the words grey' and economics (economics).

The President introduced this new term to describe rampant greed in the economic sector, especially the behavior of a number of elites who constantly steal the country's wealth without showing any deterrent.

The statement was made by President Prabowo when closing the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Congress in Solo, Central Java, Sunday, July 20.

"So it turns out that we have a new phenomenon. I think the mazhab used to be the mazhab. This is a new mazhab economy that I call the greedy mazhabs," said Prabowo.

According to Prabowo, greedyism is not a theory taught at university or listed in economic books. On the other hand, this term refers to economic practices based on infinite lust to enrich oneself, regardless of its impact on the state and society.

Prabowo called this a greedy science carried out by a handful of people who continued to undermine the nation's wealth.

"This is a new period of the economy, which I call mazhab greedynomics. This Serakhannomics has passed, it's not in the book, it's not at an economic university like this. This is greedy science," he said.

President Prabowo is very disappointed with the greedy actors, who according to him have never felt enough and have never been deterred even though they have been warned many times. He said the minds of these perpetrators were extraordinary, but they were used for personal interests that were detrimental to the state.

"The trick is extraordinary, I don't deter. I've been given warnings many times, still. I'm sad. I think they are in the direction, it doesn't make sense or anything. They are greedy," he said.

On the same occasion, the President reminded him of the oath of office he had spoken with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on October 20, 2024. He emphasized that the oath was not just a formality, but a real commitment to implementing the 1945 Constitution and all applicable legal rules.

"On October 20, 2024, Mas Gibran and I were sworn in in front of the Indonesian people. We were sworn in to uphold the Basic Law and carry out all applicable laws," he said.

The President also stated that his government would act decisively against anyone who proved to be detrimental to the state. He prayed that he would be given the strength and courage to be able to carry out this task.

"Therefore, God willing, I only ask for strength from the Almighty, give me strength to dare to enforce the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.

Prabowo reminded that Indonesia has very rich resources. However, this wealth continues to be targeted by greedy individuals who are good at manipulating the system for personal gain.

"Our wealth is extraordinary, but the thieves are extraordinary," said Prabowo.

Prabowo indicated that the government would not remain silent in the face of this greed. "Wait for the game date," he said.

However, the President still expressed hope and optimism for Indonesia's future. He said, in recent times, Indonesia has received many invitations and attention from various countries in the world, from Africa, Latin America, to Europe.

"I'm a bit tired of all countries wanting to go to Indonesia or inviting Indonesia to them now. African countries, African countries, Latin America. Wow, I don't feel good myself, I haven't been patient for another 5-6 years or not, we want it now, so we are respected everywhere, brothers and sisters," concluded Prabowo.
