JAKARTA - Iran is planned to hold nuclear negotiations with Britain, France, and Germany in Istanbul, Turkey this Friday week, a spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry said Monday morning.
The plan for these negotiations follows warnings from the three European countries (E3) that failure to continue negotiations will result in international sanctions being reinstated against Iran.
"The meeting between Iran, Britain, France and Germany will take place at the deputy minister of foreign affairs level," Esmaeil Baghaei was quoted as saying by Iranian state media.
The scheduled negotiations came after foreign ministers from E3 countries and the European Union's Head of Foreign Policy made their first phone call last Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas AragCHI since Israel and the US attacked Iran's nuclear facilities a month ago.
The three European countries, along with China and Russia, are the remaining parties in the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA) reached with Iran, abandoned by the United States in 2018 under President Donald Trump, who lifted sanctions against the Middle Eastern country in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.
The E3 has stated it will restore UN sanctions against Tehran through a snapback mechanism by the end of August if ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US before the Israeli-Iran air warfare are discontinued or fail to produce tangible results.
"If EU/E3 want to play a role, they must act responsibly, and rule out outdated threat and pressure policies, including 'snapbacks' that have absolutely no moral and legal basis," Foreign Minister Araghchi said earlier this week.

The snapshotback mechanism can be used to restore UN sanctions before UN Security Council resolutions passing the deal expires on October 18.
Prior to the Israeli-Iran war, Tehran and Washington held five rounds of nuclear negotiations mediated by Oman, but faced major barriers such as uranium enrichment in Iran, which Western to zero countries wanted to reduce to minimize the risk of weaponry.
On the other hand, Tehran insists its nuclear program is solely aimed at civilian and peaceful purposes.
