SOLO Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Kaesang Pangarep admitted his failure to bring the party he led to qualify for Senayan in the 2024 General Election. However, he emphasized that PSI would be a party that was calculated in the 2029 General Election.

Kaesang made this statement in his inaugural speech after being re-elected as General Chair of the PSI DPP for the 2025 '30 period. The election process was carried out through an online voting system (e-vote) and announced at the PSI 2025 Congress which was held at Graha Saba Buana, Solo, Saturday 19 July.

"I apologize profusely to all members of PSI cadres because I failed to bring this party into Senayan. But remember, in 2029 we will be a counted party," said Kaesang in front of the cadres.

Kaesang explained that in the previous period, he had only three months to campaign for the party bearing the red-and-white elephant symbol. Even so, he still appreciates the hard work of the cadres who have succeeded in increasing the PSI seat acquisition in DPRD levels 1 and 2 to double the previous election.

Maybe people think we are still small elephants, but the small elephants are still big. So look later, in 2029 we will become a big party," said the youngest son of President Joko Widodo, full of optimism.

In the PSI General Election which uses the e-vote system, Kaesang managed to take a landslide lead by obtaining 65.28 percent of the total voter list (DPT) of 157,579 people. He defeated two other candidates, namely Ronald A. Sinaga (Bro Ron) who won 22.23 percent of the vote and Agus Mulyono Herlambang with 12.49 percent of the vote.

Kaesang also conveyed an invitation to his two competitors to jointly build PSI in the future. He emphasized that there is no partition within the party and all cadres have the opportunity to contribute to the central structure.

"I also invited Bro Ron and Bro Agus to join and help me in the DPP. PSI is an open party, and all of us are brothers," said Kaesang.

Kaesang emphasized that the e-vote system PSI uses is a tangible form of the spirit of openness and modernity in politics. He called this system a manifestation of a new political culture that prioritizes active participation of cadres.

"I realize there are still many shortcomings, there are still many things that need to be improved. But at least, we have dared to start a new political culture: one member, one voice," he said.

With a leadership period of the next five years and a longer campaign time towards the 2029 General Election, Kaesang is optimistic that it can bring PSI through the parliamentary threshold. He said that his party already has strong foundations and solid cadres in various regions.

Now, the challenge for Kaesang is to prove that this optimism can be translated into concrete steps, especially in strengthening the party structure, recruiting cadres, and an effective communication strategy for facing upcoming political contestation.
