Israeli Settlements Act In West Bank With 757 Attacks, Mass Refugees Soar

JAKARTA - The United Nations (UN) reported that mass evacuations in the West Bank have surged from an unprecedented number since Israel first took control of the military over the region nearly six decades ago.

Reported by Reuters on Friday, July 18, the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva also stated that there had been 757 Israeli settlers' attacks on Palestinians or their property since January "an increase of 13% compared to the same period last year.

At least 964 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023.

During the same period, 53 Israelis have been killed in attacks by Palestinians or in armed clashes.

US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, demanded a full investigation into the murder of a Palestinian American who was beaten to death by settlers in the West Bank on July 11, calling it a "criminal and terrorist act".

The United Nations Supreme Court last year declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, including the West Bank, illegal and must be ended as soon as possible.

Israel denies this, citing historical and alkitabiah ties to security and ties to the region, which it captured in the 1967 Middle East war. The West Bank is among the territories championed by Palestine to become an independent country.
