East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma received a number of complaints from victims of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency.

One of these complaints is related to the issue of children's education costs because they are hit by natural disasters and are still in refugee camps. The victims have difficulty paying education for children, especially those who will continue their studies, including students who are currently still studying.

"This work visit has been planned for some time, but due to obstacles in natural conditions, several other agendas can only be carried out today. I want to see the condition and condition of the community, and listen directly to the hearts of residents at the evacuation posts," he said during a dialogue with the victims of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki, Wednesday, July 16, which was confiscated by Antara.

During the visit, Deputy Governor Johni conducted a review of the condition of the community who were at the location of the Bogang Wolomatang Refugee Command Post, and the Konga Refugee Command Post in East Flores Regency.

Other problems that were conveyed by the victims were also about financial obligations to banks and cooperatives. A number of refugees have loans which are now difficult for them to pay off due to loss of livelihood.

They asked the government to facilitate dialogue with banks to find solutions or other forms of relief.

Finally, related to economic recovery, there is provision of jobs to regenerate the community's economy. The victims of the eruption revealed that most of the garden products were damaged by the disaster, so they lost their main source of income.

Responding to public complaints, Deputy Governor Johni said that the government understands the difficult conditions being faced. For educational issues, he requested that data collection be carried out regarding the number of children who will pursue higher education so that the government can map out the form of support that may be given.

Deputy Governor Johni also explained that currently improving the quality of education is the main thing that the government continues to strive for.

"The government will continue to strive for the development and improvement of the quality of education to be carried out, without any boundaries even in the midst of disaster conditions that are faced, access to education for children must continue to be pursued properly. I also give appreciation, in the midst of difficult conditions like this, father and mother still think about children's education," he explained.

Regarding the problem of citizen debt to banks and cooperatives, the Deputy Governor explained that banks have separate rules and regulations that cannot be directly intervened by the government. However, he said that there is a system that allows relief or rescheduling obligations, and this can be further facilitated.

Meanwhile, in an effort to recover the economy, the Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of utilizing the government's labor-intensive programs that are already running in East Flores. According to him, these programs can be an entry point for the community to get income again.

"I have accommodated the inputs, criticisms, and complaints that have been submitted and follow-up at the provincial government level, even if necessary, I will coordinate it to the central government," he said.

Then when visiting residents in each refugee camp, Deputy Governor Johni said that the community can remain calm and patient, in facing problems, especially in disaster conditions, because the government will always work hard in helping the community face this problem.
