"Inventory of heavily damaged schools is carried out to get priority attention so that repairs are immediately made this year," said Deputy Mayor of Palembang, Prima Salam in Palembang, Saturday.

To carry out the inventory, he said, the Palembang Education Office (Disdik) team was assigned to check schools that were his responsibility in 18 sub-districts.

The repair of the school building, he continued, was carried out on a priority scale due to a limited budget.

"School improvements to support the Smart Palembang Program continue to be carried out on a priority scale, buildings with severe or inadequate condition for teaching and learning activities are prioritized," he said.

He explained that the repair of the school building is one of the main development programs in the next five years.

With the availability of good school buildings and adequate supporting facilities, he said, it is hoped that school-age children in Bumi Sriwijaya can study safely and comfortably.

The improvement of hundreds of schools in the city, he continued, is expected to run according to plan so that it can be completed in the next one or two years.

Prima Salam said that the improvement of the school building is a concern in the activities of this city development project, because it is impossible to produce quality and highly competitive human resources if it is not supported by adequate educational facilities.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Palembang City Education Office, Adrianus Amri, said that to make the Palembang Smart Program a success, all schools in this city are in a decent condition for teaching and learning activities.

For repair activities that are included on a temporary priority scale, he said, there are six elementary schools that were heavily damaged, consisting of 12 localized and 20 locally damaged.

Then for junior high schools that need to be repaired immediately, he continued, there are 24 schools consisting of eight locals that were severely damaged, then 16 locals suffered moderate damage.
