LAMPUNG BARAT - A man named Misni (62), a resident from Pemalang, Central Java, was found dead in a pathetic condition while gardening in a protected forest area of Pemangku Kali Pasir, Pekon Sukabumi, Batu Brak District, West Lampung Regency, Thursday, July 10.

Batu Brak sub-district head Ruspel Gultom confirmed the incident and said the victim was strongly suspected of being preyed on wildlife, allegedly a Sumatran tiger, which is still found in the local conservation area.

"The victim was found at around 19.30 WIB with bite wounds on the legs and body. The location of the incident was in a conservation forest area known to have a wild animal population," Ruspel said when contacted, quoted from Antara, Friday, July 11.

The victim's family was previously suspicious because the victim never came home after going to the garden. They then searched until they finally found Misni in a lifeless condition in the garden area where she used to work.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (TNBBS), Hifzon Zawahiri, also confirmed the incident. He said the victim was immediately buried that night at the request of the family.

The victim is suspected of having died as a result of a tiger-type wild animal attack. The body was immediately buried at the Sidodadi Pemangku TPU, Pekon, Iron City, Batu Brak District," said Hifzon.

The TNBBS together with related officials are currently monitoring around the scene to anticipate the possibility of the presence of other tigers in residential areas.
