JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital sent the first reprimand letter to YouTube, following the content of the live broadcast (live stream) carried out by YouTuber Muhammad Jannah alias Bigmo.
In the live broadcast, Komdigi found that Bigmo was promoting electronic cigarette (vape) products by involving minors.
Minister of Communication and Information Meutya Hafid emphasized that the practice of exploiting children to promote products that are not intended for them is a serious violation and cannot be tolerated.
"Children must be protected from all forms of exploitation in the digital space. Content involving children to promote vape products is clearly against the spirit of child protection and should not be given space on digital platforms," Meutya said in his statement.
Through the letter, the Ministry of Communication and Information asked YouTube to immediately review and take action against the content in question, as well as provide clarification regarding the steps that have been and will be taken.
In addition, YouTube is also asked to strengthen the content moderation system proactively against content that has the potential to violate the principles of child protection in the digital space, including the promotion of electronic cigarette products (vapes), increasing the speed of handling similar content, and ensuring that the detection and age-restriction mechanisms run effectively.

The Minister of Communication and Information emphasized that the letter of reprimand was part of the mechanism for enforcing compliance with the Private Scope Electronic System Operator (PSE) as regulated in Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information Number 5 of 2020.
"We ask the platform to act quickly. The digital space should not be a place that allows children to be used as a means of promoting products that have the potential to harm their health," said Meutya.
Komdigi gives YouTube a maximum of 3 days to follow up on the findings. If not, Komdigi can impose administrative sanctions in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations, ranging from written reprimands, administrative fines, temporary suspension of services, to termination of access to electronic systems.
