Persecutor Of Pregnant Women Until Janin Dies Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced the defendant Elensia Elyora Warin-Angin (26) to 12 years in prison, for molesting a pregnant woman, causing the fetus in her womb to die.

"Sentenced the defendant Elensia Elyora to Warin-Angin with a prison sentence of 12 years," said Chief Judge Frans Effendi Manurung at the Medan District Court, Wednesday, July 9, as reported by ANTARA.

The panel of judges stated that the defendant Elensia was found guilty of violating Article 80 paragraph (3) in conjunction with Article 76C of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection as the first alternative indictment.

The aggravating thing about the defendant Elensia's actions has caused deep sorrow for the victim and his family.

"The child of the victim, Etri Wati Purba, is still dead," said Judge Frans.

After reading the verdict, Chief Judge Frans Effendi Manurung gave the defendant and the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Medan Kejari to state their position on the verdict.

"The defendant and the public prosecutor were given seven days to state their position, whether to appeal or accept this verdict," said Judge Frans.

The verdict was lighter than the demands of the Medan Kejari Prosecutor Vina Monika previously demanded that the defendant Elensia Elyora Warin-Angin be sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Public Prosecutor Vina in her indictment stated that this case began with a fight that occurred at a coffee shop on Jalan Setia Budi Ujung Medan, Saturday (7/9/2024).

His party stated that the incident between the defendant Elensia and the victim Etri Wati Purba was triggered by a personal matter of alleged infidelity.

In the fight, the defendant Elensia stepped on the body of the victim Etri Wati Purba, who was pregnant at that time until the fetus in the womb of the victim died.

"Not accepting the defendant's actions, then the victim reported the incident to the police," said Public Prosecutor Vina.
