JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that the problem with the smell of garbage from Plant Rorotan's Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), North Jakarta will be resolved in the third week of August 2025.
This was in response to the request of the Minister of Environment (LH) so that the DKI Provincial Government would immediately operate the Rorotan RDF. Rorotan's RDF trial was previously stopped because it caused a smell that residents complained about.
"For the Rorotan RDF, it is according to schedule, hopefully on August 22, it will really be finished. Before August 22, a gradual commission was carried out," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, July 8.
In the next two weeks, the commissioning process or RDF Rorotan testing will be carried out. Pramono will check directly to the location.
However, Pramono admitted that the results of processing waste into alternative fuel from Rorotan's RDF re-test did not run optimally. At least, the smell of garbage that pollutes the surrounding environment is resolved.
"So it's not as direct as expected and now additional instruments to prevent odors and also cause problems for residents, hopefully on August 22, everything will be finished," explained Pramono.
Previously, Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq reminded that the Rorotan RDF should have operated since the end of last year, and asked that the facility could be immediately used to handle 2,500 tons of Jakarta waste.
"My hope is that as promised by the Provincial Government of Jakarta, it will reduce waste since December 2024. Additional waste reductions of 2,500 tons per day with the operation of RDF Rorotan," said Hanif after reviewing the waste management of Teluk Gong Market, North Jakarta, Wednesday, July 2.
