JAKARTA - Controlling a number of street vendors (PKL) carried out by the Central Jakarta Satpol PP in the Monas area, Gambir, Central Jakarta, eventually led to clashes.

Head of Central Jakarta Satpol PP, Tumbur Parluhutan Purba said the incident occurred when officers were on patrol, the team saw that the traders were hanging out at one of the Monas entrances.

This made the Satpol PP furious. Satpol PP officers also gave an appeal for traders to leave the area.

"At that time the condition of the Pertamina Pintu Monas area was full of solids or filled with street vendors so that it looked shabby," said Purba in a statement, Friday (04/07/2025).

Purba said that his party had also given an appeal but the traders responded poorly. As a result, traders fight against Satpol PP at the location.

"The street vendors resisted and provoked other traders to join in the fight. That was what sparked tension between officers and street vendors, which resulted in pushing each other and arguing between officers and street vendors," he said.

Police officers who were at the location also intervened the commotion between Satpol PP and traders.

"The traders dispersed to be under the Taman Perwira, because the traders gathered at the location and then the re-barriers were carried out under them persuasively," he said.
