JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding emphasized his commitment to fighting the abuse and circulation of narcotics in the community, including the Indonesian migrant workers.

He said this when accompanying the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Komjen Pol. Dr. Martinus Hukom attended the destruction of narcotics evidence in the West Jakarta area, Wednesday, July 2.

"This drug is an extraordinary crime. Therefore, the state must be present to protect its people, especially since it is related to the future of our young generation," said Minister Karding.

Minister Karding expressed his appreciation for BNN's firm steps in eradicating drugs. He emphasized that drugs are a tremendous threat to the nation's future, especially the younger generation and migrant workers who are vulnerable to being victims or perpetrators due to economic limitations and situational pressure abroad.

"We continue to strengthen cooperation with BNN to prevent Indonesian migrant workers from being involved in narcotics networks, both as couriers and victims of exploitation. Education and literacy will continue to be improved, in order to save them from the trap of international drug syndicates," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of BNN Komjen Pol. Martinus Hukom emphasized the importance of the involvement of all elements of the nation in fighting narcotics. According to him, drug crimes are not only legal issues, but also related to the social, ethical, and morality order of the community.

"People affected by drug crimes need political support, need political will to rise together to fight drug crimes and build a healthier and more civilized social life order," said Martinus.

In this activity, BNN destroyed evidence of narcotics weighing 502.9 kilograms (kg) consisting of 279.4 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 313.4 kg of marijuana, and 471 ecstasy pills. The evidence came from 35 cases with 82 suspects who were arrested in joint operations in various regions, including Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau, Jakarta, and Sulawesi.

Komjen Pol. Martinus also emphasized that the destruction process was carried out in a transparent manner, in public, as a form of BNN's accountability and commitment that no one gram of evidence was misused.

"We want the public to believe that the confiscated narcotics evidence was really destroyed. This is not a ceremony. This is a form of resistance to the nation's moral destruction," he said.

The destruction of narcotics evidence was also attended by representatives from various ministries and institutions, including the Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law and Security (Kemenko Polkam), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, BPOM, PPATK, and community leaders. All parties are committed to continuing to strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration in order to create a healthy, clean, and drug-free Indonesia.
