JAKARTA - Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding wants to grow skilled migrant workers (skilled workers) through the establishment of the Migrant Center service.

"This is what I want to improve, move from domestic, from elementary, junior high, to high school, to college. From low skills to medium and above skills," Karding said after the inauguration of the Migrant Center at Diponegoro University (Undip), Semarang, Thursday, June 26, as stated by the Ministry of P2MI, quoted by Antara.

Minister Karding explained that currently there are about 80 percent of Indonesian migrant workers working in the domestic sector.

"Because the average is still working in domestic workers, around 80 percent are still working in the household environment. Of the 80 percent, as many as 67.3 percent of women and elementary schools, junior high schools are mostly," said Minister Karding.

Karding said that his ministry wanted to shift the trend of Indonesian migrant workers who previously worked in the domestic sector to become skilled workers.

For this reason, he hopes that the presence of the Migrant Center can grow a new ecosystem that can help improve the ability of Indonesian migrant workers.

"Well, that's what the migrant center will be for. We will build an ecosystem starting from information, training, to everything in Undip here. We are grateful that Undip will become the mouthpiece of Java later," said Minister Karding.

The inauguration of the Migrant Center through the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Director General of Promotion and Utilization of Foreign Works Opportunities of the Ministry of P2MI Dwi Setiawan Susanto and the Chancellor of Diponegoro University, Suharmono, witnessed directly by the Minister of Karding.
