Indonesian Foreign Minister: 97 People Have Passed The Iran-Azerbaijan Border

JAKARTA - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Sugiono said as of today 97 people, consisting of 93 Indonesian citizens, 3 embassy staff, and 1 foreign national (Iranian citizen pair Indonesians) had crossed the Iran-Azerbaijan border.

Currently, the 97 people are resting in Baku, the Foreign Minister said in an online media briefing from Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday (21/6) local time, while attending the Ministerial Conference on Islamic Cooperation Organizations (KTM OKI).

The Foreign Minister said the journey traveled to 97 people was about 16 hours. "Alhamdulillah, it went quite safely and quite smoothly, considering the border situation is also a bit more crowded than usual," he said.

"Then, at the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has succeeded in evacuating 4 Indonesian citizens from Israel through Jordan," said the Foreign Minister further.

So, everything is in good condition, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also still communicating with other Indonesian citizens, and Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that he would continue to monitor the evacuation process.

"Alhamdulillah, so far, the first stage we have done is going well," he said.

"Then, I was in Istanbul this morning to attend the 51st Ministerial Conference (KTM) of Islamic Cooperation Organizations (OIC), one of which will also discuss the situation in Iran," added the Foreign Minister.

The government hopes for support and prayers from the Indonesian people so that the evacuation process can run smoothly, and the current situation in Iran will soon subside.

"There is a desire and wisdom to be able to bring the tension of this conflict to the negotiating table," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, regarding the armed conflict currently occurring between Iran and Israel.
