The Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST) Police, South Kalimantan (Kalsel), arrested Hamidan (35), who is known to be a fake habib with a fugitive status related to the motorcycle theft case in Hawang Village, Limpasu HST District.

"That's right, the perpetrator is a resident of Tanah Laut Regency who became a fugitive after stealing two motorized vehicles in the Banjar Regency area," said Limpasu Police Chief Ipda Sembiring as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 19.

Investigators took the suspect to the Banjar Police Station on Wednesday at around 19:00 WITA.

The police chief explained that his party received reports from residents who were worried about Hamidan's whereabouts who claimed to be habib and had opened a recitation on Monday (16/6).

After being investigated, officers arrested the suspect who claimed to have stolen two motorbikes in the jurisdiction of Banjar Regency, then fled to Hawang HST Village until he claimed to be habib.

Head of BPD for Hawang Village, Muhammas Zaini, said Hamidan came to Hawang Village at the end of 22024, then claimed to be Habib who opened the assembly at his home.

Several residents of RT08 attended the assembly six months ago and had believed in the fake habib, to donations of money to buy a recitation facility filled with Hamidan.

The false habib disclosure was after a villager migrated to Hamidan's village in Tanah Laut Regency.

"From here, residents began to doubt the authenticity of the habib," said Zaini.

On Wednesday night, members of Hamidan's recitation association in HST came to the suspect, so the true identity of the perpetrator was exposed.

"Because of the digital age, information spread quickly and the identity of fake habib was exposed until the public reported it to the authorities," said Zaini.
