JAKARTA - Indonesia offers assistance to bridge communications to differences to ease regional and global tensions, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono when meeting with his team from Russia Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Sugiono made a working visit to Moscow in order to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, as well as preparation for President Prabowo Subianto's state visit and meet President Vladimur Putin in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In addition to bilateral relations and cooperation, the two foreign ministers also discussed the development of the current regional and global situation.

"I also offer Indonesia's assistance in bridging all communications, differences, and offering Indonesia assistance to reduce tensions regionally and globally so that we can contribute to peaceful situations and environments and in many regions of the world," said Foreign Minister Sugiono in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday, June 18.

The current situation in the Middle East, the situation in the Gaza Strip and mutual attacks between Israel and Iran are also one of the discussions of the two foreign ministers.

"The international community needs to make every possible effort to calm and defuse the situation and encourage the resolution of any disputes at the negotiating table," Foreign Minister Lavrov said in a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry on his website.

Echoing back what Foreign Minister Lavrov said, Foreign Minister Sugiono again said it was important to stop escalation and bring disputes to negotiations.

"As Foreign Minister Lavrov mentioned about the developing situation in the Middle East, this is something we also need to deal with. We agree that every escalation needs to be stopped and every dispute needs to be brought to the negotiating table," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
