WEST PAPUA - The West Papua High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has begun to investigate allegations of corruption in the management of grant funds for the 2024 Pilkada at the General Election Commission (KPU) of West Papua Province, and the Fakfak Regency KPU.

Assistant for Special Crimes at the West Papua Attorney General's Office Abun Hasbullah Syambas said his party had issued an investigation warrant for the management of Pilkada grant funds for the two institutions.

"Sprin has come out. We have targeted two KPUs, namely the provincial KPU and one district KPU," Abun said in Manokwari, Tuesday, June 17, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the examination of parties from the West Papua KPU and the Fakfak KPU is scheduled to start next week to collect preliminary evidence, as well as determine the feasibility to the investigation stage.

Pemeriksaan untuk KPU Fakfak dilakukan di Kejaksaan Negeri Sorong, Papua Barat Daya, mengingat jarak antara Sorong dan Fakfak lebih dekat dibandingkan ke Manokwari, Papua Barat.

"We will publish the details after the examination. The location of the West Papua KPU examination is at the West Papua Prosecutor's Office, Manokwari," he said.

Previously, the West Papua KPU ranks returned Rp. 87.067 billion from the total receipt of 2024 Pilkada grants of Rp. 200,032 billion to the West Papua Provincial Government on April 9, 2025.

West Papua KPU chairman Paskalis Semunya said the total amount of regional election grant funds received according to projected needs reached Rp200,032 billion to finance six pairs of candidates for governor and deputy governor.

"But the fact is that there is only one candidate pair, thus affecting the absorption of the budget. We will return the rest," said Paskalis.

Meanwhile, the Fakfak Regency KPU reported that the total grant funds for the 2024 Pilkada amounted to Rp39,928 billion and the accountability report for the use of grants had been submitted to the local district government.
