The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) transferred as many as 100 high-risk inmates from North Sumatra (North Sumatra) to Nusakambangan Island, Central Java.
Head of the Correctional Cooperation Sub-Directorate Rika Aprianti explained that the prisoners were transferred to a prison with supermaximum security in Nusakambangan on Saturday, June 14.
"A total of about 1,000 inmates have been transferred to the supermaximum prison and maximum security during the leadership period of Minister Imipas Agus Andrianto, which was held by the Director General of Corrections Mashudi," Rika said as quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 15.
According to Rika, the transfer of high-risk prisoners is a form of implementation of the acceleration program of the Minister of Imipas, namely eradicating drugs in prisons and detention centers.
His party wants to achieve zero drug trafficking in prisons and detention centers which are feared to have an impact on the community. On the other hand, Ditjenpas wants the inmates or prisoners to clean up.
"The transferred inmates are expected to change their behavior for the better after applying appropriate security and coaching at the Nusakambangan Prison," said Rika.
He also said that the transfer of high-risk prisoners to prisons with super security was part of the implementation of the prison system's goals, namely that prisoners could realize their mistakes and not repeat them in the future.
"Moreover, it has a negative effect on the prison environment where they live. There is no mercy for that. Time and again the Minister of Imipas said that, zero (nil) drugs and cellphones, are fixed prices," he said.
The transfer of 100 prisoners from the North Sumatra region was carried out by escorting 200 personnel by the Director of Intelligence Security and the Director of Internal Compliance at the Directorate General of Regional Offices of the Ditjenpas and Prisons in North Sumatra, as well as working with the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade Unit.
