JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Mardani Ali Sera proposed to the Indonesian government to form a task force (Satgas) for the protection of Indonesian citizens (WNI).

This needs to be done following the existence of two Indonesian citizens who were detained in the aftermath of the immigration policy of President Donald Trump's administration which resulted in a massive demonstration in Los Angeles, United States.

Mardani asked the government to record the status of Indonesian citizens (WNI) is legal or illegal. He also asked the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) to continue to provide legal assistance to detained Indonesian citizens.

"We must be present, guard and support the diaspora of our Indonesian citizens," said Mardani Ali Sera, Saturday, June 14.

Mardani asked the government to provide maximum protection for Indonesian citizens, considering that the US condition is not doing well because of Donald Trump's strict policy.

"Maybe reliable lawyers need to be prepared and work with the local community to overcome the controversial immigration policy," he said.

"Or, a special task force needs to be prepared to oversee various problems that occur due to Trump's sometimes unreasonable policies. This is to ensure that our citizens in the US receive protection, especially diaspora which are having legal problems," continued Mardani.

According to Mardani, Trump's policy has led the US to the brink of death. Because the United States is no longer a country where many ethnic groups have merged into one. In fact, so far, immigrants in the US have been the driving force of the country's economy.

"USA is increasingly heading for death, because it is no longer a filling pot. It no longer belongs to American Dream. Even though immigrants have been a USA growth motorbike," said Mardani.

Politically, continued Mardani, Indonesia is facing a diplomatic dilemma. On the one hand, Indonesia has strategic and economic relations with the United States, but on the other hand, human rights principles and protection of foreign nationals are now being damaged by Trump's immigration policy.

Mardani also emphasized that the Indonesian government must express official concerns through diplomatic channels against discriminatory immigration policies and have an impact on the international community, including Indonesian citizens.

In addition, Indonesia needs to build an international coalition with other countries in Global South or Muslim countries to put moral pressure on the US Government.

"When the social and political crisis in the United States heats up due to exclusive and inhumane policies, Indonesia as a democratic country with a large number of diaspora should not be a passive audience," said Mardani.

"The world is changing, Indonesia must be part of that change, with the moral courage and political assertiveness needed today," he concluded.

As is known, President Donald Trump's increasingly violent immigration policy has sparked a wave of public protests that have led to escalating unrest and social tensions. There are at least 21 policies to clean the US of Trump's illegal murals.

Starting from giving authority to security authorities to arrest suspected illegal migrants in public places, such as schools, churches, hospitals, or when in court. Another crucial policy is related to the elimination of automatic citizenship for infants born in the US.

Trump responded to the protests due to these policies with a model military operation.

Trump even deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to quell the demonstrations that took place in Los Angeles, on Saturday, June 7, the White House called the deployment a step to defuse "legal violations" after riots of protests.
