JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said an agreement with the United States could be reached if Iran's right to uranium enrichment was guaranteed and sanctions against Tehran were lifted.
Foreign Minister Araghchi delivered the statement in a post on his X account on Wednesday, ahead of the sixth round of indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington over Iran's nuclear program, scheduled for June 15 in Muscat, Oman.
Foreign Minister Araghchi stressed that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons, saying the premises could be the basis for a new deal with the United States.
"President Trump began taking office saying that Iran should not own nuclear weapons. It is actually in line with our own doctrine and can be the main basis for an agreement," he said, quoted by IRNA June 12.
"As we resume talks on Sunday, it is clear that a deal that can ensure the sustainability of Iran's peaceful nuclear program is already within reach and can even be reached quickly," he added.
The negotiations mediated by Oman faced hurdles as US President Donald Trump's administration pushed for a halt to the total enrichment of Iran's uranium, a claim Tehran has rejected.

Foreign Minister Araghchi stressed that "profit-to-profit results" in negotiations would depend on Iran's recognition of the right to enrichment, under the full supervision of the United Nations nuclear watchdog, as well as an effective cessation of sanctions.
