Denpasar Police Clarification Of Death Of UA Prisoners: Died Of Illness

DENPASAR - Denpasar City Police (Polresta) provided clarification regarding the death of a suspect in the theft case with the initials UA (45) who is a prisoner at the South Kuta Police, Badung.

Head of the Public Relations Section of the Denpasar Police, AKP I Ketut Sukadi, said that a prisoner from Sumbawa who was known to be a specialist recidivist in theft at the boarding house died on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 23.53 WITA at Prof. Ngoerah Hospital (RSUP Sanglah) Denpasar due to shortness of breath and complications.

"On May 30, 2025 at 07.25 WITA, UA experienced shortness of breath and gastric complaints while in the detention room. This condition was immediately reported by other detainees to the guard," Sukadi said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 11.

Sukadi explained that at that time, the guard officers took UA to the Nusa Dua Health Center to get an initial examination. Furthermore, at 08.15 WITA, UA was referred to Bhayangkara Trijata Hospital for further medical treatment.

Because his condition continued to worsen, said Sukadi, in the evening UA was again referred to Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar.

At the hospital, the medical team conducted a series of examinations including X-rays and other intensive measures.

Furthermore, on May 31 at 00.54 WITA, UA was transferred to the HCU Mawar room for intensive care. On the same day, a kidney specialist conducted further examinations because UA was known to have a history of diabetes and HIV.

"After undergoing treatment for several days, UA's life could not be saved and was declared dead on June 7, 2025 at 23:53 WITA at Sanglah Hospital," he said.

According to Sukadi, the police stated that they had carried out maximum medical treatment of the suspect and would continue the process according to applicable procedures.

Previously, UA was arrested in a boarding house burglary on Jalan Pratama, Benoa Village, South Kuta, Badung, on Saturday, May 24, 2025. He was arrested with his colleague MJ (50).

When released at the South Kuta Police on Friday 30, May 2025, only MJ can be presented because UA has stomach pain and has to undergo treatment at the hospital.

According to South Kuta Police Chief AKP I Komang Agus Dharmaina, UA is the mastermind of this crime, and is a recidivist who was arrested by the Denpasar Police. In carrying out his actions, he was armed with sharp weapons (sajam).

This case was revealed based on the report of the victim VAW (23).

After being arrested, MJ and UA were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft by weight, with a maximum prison sentence of seven years.
