JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially signed a Governor Regulation (Pergub) regarding the "One RT One APAR" program. The policy was taken as an effort to anticipate and deal with fire incidents more quickly in densely populated areas such as Jakarta.

This program targets every neighborhood unit (RT) to have one light fire extinguisher (APAR) no later than August 2025. I just signed a Governor's Regulation on APAR. Hopefully this August each RT has one APAR," Pramono said in his statement, Monday 9 June.

With the existence of APAR in each RT, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Jakarta hopes that residents can handle the initial fire independently before the fire fighting team arrives. "If there is an incident like this, it can be handled quickly because Kapuk Muara is a dense area, once it catches fire it spreads very quickly," he continued.

It is known that the fire in Kapuk Muara scorched 485 houses. Although the impact was quite large, Pramono was grateful that there were no casualties in the incident.

According to Pramono, the APAR procurement movement has actually been running in several areas of Jakarta. However, through the governor's regulation, this step has now received an official legal umbrella and is a mandatory program for all RTs.

The 'One RT One APAR' program is also part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's strategy in establishing a community-based fire disaster mitigation system. In addition, this also supports public education efforts regarding the safety of the environment.
