MUI Jayawijaya Urges Muslims To Be Alert Following OTK Shooting

WAMENA - Following the shooting by an unknown person or OTK to civilians who work as builders and police officers in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains Province, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Jayawijaya Regency, appealed to Muslims to always increase their vigilance when doing activities outside the home.

Chairman of the Jayawijaya Regency MUI Ustaz Adnan Yelipele when contacted in Wamena, Saturday, said all religious communities, especially Muslims in this area, should be more careful with less conducive security situations.

"We hope Muslims should be aware of recent events that have traumatized us and felt anxious, especially in the village area about the murder," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, June 7.

According to him, with all series of events, Muslims must be able to take care of themselves, protect their families so that they are safe and avoid disasters.

"We remind fellow Muslims who work as builders (building), drivers and other professions not to carry out activities outside the city of Wamena to avoid all kinds of disasters," he said.

He hopes that the security forces, both the TNI and Polri, will immediately resolve security problems in Jayawijaya district so that the entire community can carry out activities as usual.

"We hope that the recent incident can be resolved by the security forces so that Muslims and generally other people can carry out their daily activities," he said.

He regretted the murder of two civilians from church construction workers in Air Garam Wamena who were shot by the OTK.

"Of course this incident really hurts the feelings of Muslims, especially me as the Chair of the MUI, because some of our people were killed. We ask the security forces to immediately reveal the perpetrators in order to get the appropriate rewards," he said.

He also condemned the perpetrators who committed heinous acts by shooting civilians of church construction workers in Air Garam Wamena.

"We believe that God Almighty will repay the perpetrators of the murder with appropriate rewards. The perpetrators did actions that were inhumane, even though they carried out church development activities," he said.

He again hopes that incidents of violence against civilians will not happen again in the future.

"We hope that the murder incident will not happen again and the community can carry out activities as usual again without fear. May Allah SWT protect Muslims and generally other people in Jayawijaya Regency," he concluded.
