Former Surabaya Public Works Service Employee Suspects Of Gratification Rp3.6 Billion Detained By The East Java Prosecutor's Office

Investigators from the East Java High Prosecutor's Office have detained a former employee of the Public Works Office of Highways and Pematusan Kota Surabaya with the initials GSP for alleged involvement in gratification and money laundering cases worth Rp3.6 billion.

"The detention was carried out after investigators found strong evidence of alleged receipt of gratuities," said Assistant for Special Crimes at the East Java High Prosecutor's Office HB Siregar in Surabaya, Tuesday, June 3.

He explained that the investigation of cases of alleged gratification had gone through various stages, including the examination of 32 witnesses and the confiscation of evidence in the form of cash amounting to Rp3.6 billion and a number of other assets.

"This gratuity was received from 2016 to 2022 when the suspect served as PPK (Committee Making Officer)," said Siregar.

Allegations of corruption stemmed from the receipt of money or gratuities totaling Rp3.6 billion, which should have been reported to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in accordance with applicable regulations.

However, GSP did not carry out these obligations within a specified period of time.

The results of the investigation conducted by the prosecutor's team revealed that the funds had been disguised through depositing into GSP's personal account before being transferred to deposits and sukuk investments.

"Although there were no state losses in this case, GSP still received large amounts of gratuities and then shifted them to investment," he said.

The suspect's actions were charged with Article 12Bjuncto Article 12C in conjunction with Article 11 of Law Number 31 of 1999, as revised by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

In addition, GSP is also suspected of violating Article 3 in conjunction with Article 4 of Law Number 8 of 2010 regarding the Prevention and Eradication of the Crime of Money Laundering.

As a follow-up, investigators issued a Detention Order Number Print-804/M.5/FD.2/06/2025, valid for 20 days from June 3, 2025.

Currently, the suspect GSP is being held at the Class I State Detention Center (Rutan) Branch of Surabaya at the East Java Prosecutor's Office.
