JAKARTA - The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jabar) has begun distributing logistical assistance to families of landslide victims in the excavation C mining area, Gunung Kuda, Cipanas Village, Cirebon Regency.
The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of West Java, Herman Suryatman, in his statement in Cirebon on Friday stated that this assistance was a form of government presence and concern for people who were directly affected by the disaster.
"We have prepared about 100 logistical aid packages. My direction is that all aid must be sent directly to residents' homes, not to trouble the families of the victims," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.
The aid packages include basic necessities, daily equipment, and the needs of children that are deemed urgent.
Not only logistical assistance, Herman also emphasized that the provincial government would provide compensation to families or heirs of the victims in the landslide incident.
"We don't want the victim's family to be bothered to come to collect help. Everything must be facilitated so that they can focus on recovery," he added.
He also said that until now, the joint team had succeeded in evacuating 14 victims who died from the disaster site in the Gunung Kuda area.
As a long-term effort, the West Java Provincial Government will support the recovery process of affected families, including through the provision of job skills training to help their survival.
The economic empowerment of the victims' families is one of our focuses. They must still have hope in the future," said Herman.

On the other hand, the West Java Regional Secretary has also asked the Cirebon Regency Government to immediately establish a disaster emergency response status. This is important to accelerate field response and facilitate coordination between agencies.
According to Herman, the proposed emergency response status has been discussed with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), given the urgency of protecting the community around the disaster site.
"The emergency response status will be enforced for the next seven days, to ensure the evacuation and handling process runs smoothly," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Regent of Cirebon, Agus Kurniawan Budiman, stated that his party would immediately issue a decree determining the emergency response and the establishment of a disaster post at the same night.
"Quick steps are needed so that the process of handling victims can be more optimal and the risk of further landslides can be minimized," said Agus.
