JAKARTA - The Russian government will continue to fulfill all its budget obligations even though there are possible sanctions and additional restrictions from Western countries.

This was conveyed by the Russian Minister of Finance, Anton Siluanov in front of Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, Wednesday, May 28 local time.

"Even if additional sanctions and restrictions are imposed, everything that has been budgeted this year will still be implemented," said Siluanov.

He added that if the new sanctions were imposed, the government would work to maintain financial and macroeconomic stability, as well as a budget balance.

He also ensured that there would be no significant changes in the tax policy currently planned.

Siluanov also highlighted the condition of Russia's coal sector, which has decreased revenue.

He stated, "Although the condition of the coal industry is difficult, I cannot say the situation is critical as a whole. However, this sector clearly requires the support of the state."

Since the Russian-Ukraine war began in 2023, Western countries, especially members of the European Union and the United States, have imposed a series of sanctions on Russia.

These measures include trade embargoes as well as various financial policies aimed at weakening the Russian economy.
