JAKARTA - The police have named the driver of a BMW car with the initials CPP as a suspect in the deadly accident that killed Argo Ericho Afandhi, a student at the UGM Faculty of Law on Jalan Palagan, Student Army, Sleman, DI Yogyakarta on Saturday (24/5).

Head of Public Relations of the Yogyakarta Regional Police, Kombes Ihsan, said that CPP is a student at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

"This case has been raised from an investigation to an investigation by naming one suspect, a BMW driver with the initials CPP, whose status is still a student and the campus is the same as the victim," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 27.

Ihsan explained that the determination of the suspect was after Sleman Police investigators conducted a case title, including the re-processing of the crime scene (TKP) with the Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) team from the Traffic Directorate of the Yogyakarta Regional Police.

"From the start, the Yogyakarta Regional Police Chief was very serious and we are committed to immediately clarifying the real facts that occurred in connection with the case," said Ihsan.

According to him, investigators have examined as many as six witnesses, including witnesses at the scene and those directly related to the incident.

Based on the results of the examination of the suspect, witness, and scientific investigation results from the crime scene, investigators considered that there was sufficient evidence to raise the status of the case to the investigation stage.

According to Ihsan, the BMW driver is suspected of violating Article 310 paragraph (4) of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, which regulates traffic accidents that result in people dying.

Regarding the suspect's whereabouts, Ihsan admitted that currently CPP has not been detained and a summons is being carried out.

"After we call, we will examine him as a suspect and immediately make arrests," he said.

Ihsan revealed that based on the results of urine tests and medical examinations at the Sleman Hospital on May 24, the CPP suspect tested negative for alcohol and drugs.

"There was no alcohol or drug content in the driver's urine. So, this is to ward off some opinions on social media," he explained.

Regarding the speed of the car when the accident occurred, he said that currently the TAA team is still conducting studies to obtain definite data through scientific investigation methods.

"So, the approach is a scientific approach. How to know the braking technique, how to know the distance from one vehicle behind it, including speed. This is really objective," he said.

Ihsan also emphasized that the entire legal process would be carried out in a professional and transparent manner.

"We will be professional, no one can intervene us in this process. So, we emphasize, we will be professional and transparent," said Ihsan.
