DPRD Proposes Prohibition Of Selling And Consumption Of Cigarettes At A Radius Of 200 Meters From Jakarta's Sensitive Facilities

JAKARTA - The Democratic-Perindo faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD proposed a minimum distance limit for consumption, sales, and promotion of cigarettes from sensitive facilities in Jakarta such as hospitals and schools.

This was expressed in a plenary meeting with the agenda of the general view of the DKI Jakarta DPRD faction towards the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) of Non-Smoking Areas (KTR) which is being prepared with the DKI Provincial Government.

"Article 1 states that an area without cigarettes is a place or room or area that is declared prohibited from smoking, producing, selling, advertising, and/or promoting cigarettes," said Member of the Democratic Party faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Andika Wisnuadji Putra Soebroto, quoted Tuesday, May 27.

At least, according to the Democrat-Perindo faction, there must be a clearer definition of the area without smoking in the KTR Raperda.

The definition referred to by the Democrat-Perindo faction is the provision of a minimum distance of 200 meters for non-smoking areas from sensitive facilities in Jakarta.

"We are of the view that this definition needs to be equipped by setting specific radii, for example: 200 meters from sensitive facilities such as schools, children's playgrounds and places of worship, hospitals," he said.

Then, if the Raperda KTR allows a special place to smoke or smoke room, then the area is required to provide a HEPA filtration system (high-efficiency party water) to reduce harmful particles from smoking.

"The Democratic-Perindo Party faction urges the acceleration of the ratification of the Raperda KTR as a firm step to overcome this health emergency," said Andika.

Responding to this, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung gave a signal that he agreed to enter the provisions for the 200 meter radius of a no-smoking area from sensitive facilities in Jakarta.

"The executive agrees with the addition of zoning rules for cigarette sales, namely a radius of 200 meters from health service facilities, educational facilities, places of worship and children's playgrounds," Pramono said in delivering the Governor's answer to the general view of the faction of the Raperda KTR.
